The Department of Biomedical Sciences organised a National Seminar on Nutraceuticals: A Novel Approach to Health on 28th October 2022. The inaugural address was given by our honorable Chief Guest Dr Hemalatha, Director, National Institute of Nutrition, ICMR institute, Hyderabad. Madam has delivered a talk on prevalence of anaemia in children and pregnant women in India and the preventative measures taken by Indian government to eradicate the same. The first plenary lecture was presented by Dr. V. Baskaran, Chief Scientist, Head, Department of Biochemistry, Central Food Technological Research Institute, CSIR Institute, Mysore. The second plenary lecture was presented by Dr. V. Hariharan, well-known personnel in social media as “Paleo Doctor”. The third plenary lecture was presented by Dr. Shobana Shanmugam, Senior Scientist, head, department of diabetes food technology, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai. The talk was on functional food and nutraceuticals in the management of Diabetes. Various competitions including poster presentation, oral presentation, quiz program and Ad-Zap were also organised. These competitions gave a platform for the UG, PG students and the Research scholars to show up their creative thinking and research ideas. Prizes were awarded for the best entries.
