I would like to extend my gratitude towards this department. It was a huge experience that I have learnt through my postgraduate course where I had the ability to learn things from the basics with utmost knowledge from the teachers and their patience in guiding me through it. The curriculum was designed in order to make us know each and everything from basics to higher end along with the practical procedures where I had the opportunity to get hands-on experience. BMS department had many activities during the academics that helped us to explore more on the research perspectives, also the inputs and motivation from the faculties helped me to achieve better results
I am happy to discuss about the experience in the Department of Biomedical Sciences in SRIHER. Regarding curriculum: It was well framed and gave importance on the topics on which current advances and research is going on. The allied and basic subjects were placed on the first semester and followed by the core subjects. The practical part was on its entirety focusing in the aspects which required hands on practice. The curriculum also gave us the opportunity to develop our presentation skills. Regarding the faculties and facilities; the faculties were friendly at the same time supporting. With the help of the faculties, I managed to get two publications during the course of the study (thanks to Deepa Parvathi & Lalitha). The research facilities were worth a mention. There are equipments which can support a good amount of research scholars in the department. Regarding project: I dealt with a model of Zebrafish inducing intracerebral hemorrhage. I learnt techniques like brain harvesting in zebrafish, cell suspension preparation, tissue sectioning, ELISA and biochemical antioxidant assays as a part of my project. I also learnt operating inverted microscope, stereomicroscope, fluorescent microscope and plate reader and microtome
The Department of Biomedical Sciences provided me with invaluable experience during my time there. The program was well-designed, combining state-of-the-art research with fundamental knowledge to provide me with a strong foundation in education that would enable me to tackle complex biological ideas. One very noteworthy aspect was the practical training, which gave me important practical experience and greatly enhanced my laboratory skills. The professors were not only very competent but also really helpful, especially when I was working on my thesis. I gained a deep understanding of the research field thanks in large part to their advice. I was able to observe the department’s unwavering dedication to research exposure across my whole academic career. By facilitating conversations on scientific literature and encouraging early involvement in research, the staff continually inspired students to actively participate with research. My career was built on the knowledge I received from this university, which also equipped me with the skills I needed to enter the research area successfully. My academic and professional journey has been profoundly impacted by the encouraging atmosphere and outstanding instructor supervision
I am delighted to share my experiences at the Department of BMS, SRIHER (DU). It’s an honour to contribute to the growth and development of our department. My time at the Department of BMS was a transformative journey from being a doctor to be a Physician-Scientist in future. The journey was filled with valuable experiences and learning. I joined M.Sc. BMS to enhance my knowledge of molecular biology and wet lab tools & techniques. I chose the Dept. of BMS of SRIHER because of the blended curriculum, and research opportunity and I am satisfied after completing my M.Sc. due to the regular classes, and guidance & support from the teachers, laboratory technicians, research scholars and other departments of the university. I am happy to choose and work on the research topic for my dissertation independently with the support of my guide and honoured to get selected under TNSCST SPS 2022. I am very happy and motivated to get the Gold Medal and I am sure that the degree and know will help me to achieve my dream goal to be a Physician-Scientist. My time at the Department of Biomedical Sciences was an enriching journey that laid the foundation for my career in the field. The curriculum was meticulously designed, blending fundamental knowledge with cutting-edge research that provided a strong theoretical base, essential for understanding complex biological systems. The practical training was equally impressive, offering hands-on experience which was invaluable in honing my laboratory skills. Apart from this we also had the opportunity to visit other departments like Radiology and Pathology to understand the use of biomedical instrumentation in diagnosis and to learn various histopathology techniques for tissue analysis. The department was dedicated in its unwavering commitment to research exposure. The faculty motivated students to engage in research by encouraging us to present and discuss scientific literature on a regular basis, co-author scientific articles and guide us in our projects early on, fostering a spirit of curiosity and discovery. These opportunities not only bolstered my academic growth but also paved the way for my research career
I had the privilege of studying B.Sc. (Hons). Biomedical sciences at Sri Ramachandra institute of higher education and research and the experience was truly exceptional. The department’s comprehensive curriculum and the incredible amount of hands-on training we received set the stage for success in our careers. Furthermore, the research exposure we gained added depth to our knowledge. The combination of these experiences has been invaluable in shaping our careers and has proven to be a key asset in our professional journey. I am very grateful for having completed my undergraduate studies in Biomedical Sciences at Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research. The guidance provided by the faculty of BMS is like no other that I’ve experienced before. The curriculum is par excellence and opened up a whole array of opportunities to us students. The labs are stocked with state-of-the-art facilities accessible to every student, looking to expand/ ascertain their interests. The opportunity to work under a guide of our choice in the latter semesters to complete a project in a field of our interest was very beneficial
First of all I express my gratitude to the faculty of the Department of Biomedical Sciences and Sri Ramachandra Institute of higher education and research, for enriching my experience in research and life. Now that I am away for master’s, I realise the impact of my bachelors training at BMS. I am familiar with most of the concepts and don’t find any technique that’s difficult to follow. This is only possible due to the curriculum and the practical training that were introduced to us. I thank everyone of the department for the amazing lectures, discussions and providing us with strong fundamentals that’s always required in the future. I learnt the art of inquisitiveness and troubleshooting from my time spent at BMS, which are crucial for any successful scientific career. Finally, I would forever be grateful to the Department of Biomedical Sciences, SRIHER for providing me with the endless opportunities and possibilities to succeed in my career.
The four years at the BMS department were memorable and to be cherished for years The nurturing and educating environment they provided helped us grow and learn as students. The course was challenging, and it was very difficult at times, but the faculty was always there to support us. We were exposed to a wide range of subjects in the field of biomedical sciences thanks to the extensive syllabus. In addition to the strong core subjects, the option to specialise in the final year was unique and one of the main reasons why I chose to complete my undergraduate SRIHER. Frequent seminars and journal clubs allowed us to meet and interact with experts in the medical field. Today I am equipped with a strong set of research skills thanks to the experience I got during my undergrad. I take this opportunity to thank all my professors for their immense support throughout the journey
My experience at the Department of Biomedical Sciences has truly exceeded expectations! The vast curriculum, ranging from core subjects such as Molecular Biology and Bioinformatics, to important skills including Good Laboratory Practices and Research Methodology, ensures a holistic approach to the varied fields associated with biomedical sciences. The in-depth theoretical study is enhanced by hands-on practical training in important laboratory techniques and assays in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Pathology, etc. The unparalleled research exposure provided at the department, including the Chancellor’s Summer Research Fellowship and the research project in the final semester, allows each of us to explore and find our fields of interest and apply our practical and theoretical knowledge to a hypothesis. Moreover, it instills the values of punctuality, dedication and consistency. I consider myself extremely lucky to be guided by the brilliant teachers at the Department of Biomedical Sciences and express my heartfelt gratitude to each of them. Life at BMS is something to look back and smile at, no matter the phase of life you’re in. Such was the case for me as well. While I’ve always known that the education I got there, be it lectures, or practical sessions were leagues ahead of its contemporaries, I’ve come to realise how thoroughly beneficial it has been. The knowledge they provide us with during lectures, the feeling of awe that was omnipresent during practicals, especially while looking at metaphases, maintaining cell culture, or even realizing the ease with which one has come to pipette have all been delightful. The program of B.Sc. (Hons.) Biomedical Sciences is systematically designed and caters to the essential skills required for a student to pursue a career in research in both academia and R&D sectors. The subjects offered were so vast and the accompanying practical aspects further strengthened the concepts taught to us theoretically. As a graduate of this course, I can confidently state that my fundamentals are strong and it gave me an edge in both professional and academic environments. The project semester during the final year was the perfect canvas to apply the theory and practical knowledge that I gained during the previous semesters and the process of writing a thesis perfectly concluded the 4-year course. During my study, I had exposure to various co-curricular initiatives which included an international quiz – Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine, Fujio Cup Quiz, where my teammate and I came second. In a national level MedTech Hackathon conducted by Sri Ramachandra Innovation Incubation Centre (SRIIC), my team and I were runners-up and as a result, we had the opportunity to be pre-incubatees in SRIIC to work on our product. I also had the honor of being a part of the Student Council, representing the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Technology. These endeavors helped me expand my horizons and step out of my comfort zone which not only helped in personal growth but also taught me essential organizational, social, and management skills. The mentorship and guidance offered by my professors in the department played a pivotal role in me successfully completing my undergraduate degree. The fact that this was an Honors (4-year) course was an added advantage as it allowed students to apply for Master’s and PhD abroad, in well reputed institutions.
I would like to share my experience at the department of Biomedical Sciences, SRIHER. I am a student from the 2019 batch and I’m currently pursuing my higher studies. The comprehensive education I received from the Department of Biomedical Sciences has given me a foundation which helps me apply those principles today. The blend of a well-structured curriculum, hands-on training, and research opportunities has not only shaped my academic foundation but also equipped me with the skills and knowledge necessary to excel in the path I am currently on.
My time as an undergrad at BMS in SRIHER played a huge role in shaping my career. The BMS coursework and practicals offered a structured yet dynamic framework of courses. In the first two years, we learned a wide range of subjects that exposed us to various fields, and in the last two years, we focused more on the research aspect of these fields and specialised on subjects that we were passionate about. The practicals, lab visits to other departments, clinical rotations and project work broadened our practical knowledge as well
My undergraduate degree in Biomedical Sciences provided a comprehensive understanding of all the fundamental concepts in various fields of life sciences. The well-structured syllabus and the hands-on practical classes were instrumental in enhancing my understanding of the concepts. In particular, the six-month research project helped a lot in honing my skills in literature review and thesis writing. It laid a strong foundation, which I feel, is extremely helpful for my master’s program now
With respect to our final year project in Applied Biomedical Sciences elective an opportunity to be a principal investigator was a chance I feel is difficult to get elsewhere. The freedom to frame our own research was a significant experience towards stepping into biomedical research. The curriculum covered a vast and all the necessary topics required, framing me to be competent for my future endeavours
The BMS program at Ramachandra taught me various skills necessary to become a competent individual both personally and professionally. The curriculum had a broad range of subjects along with specialised and upcoming areas in the field of biology. Throughout the four years of study, faculty mentored us and guided us wherever needed. Overall, BMS paved the way for all of us to pursue and achieve our dreams.

Hi, I am Yasheswinee. R, proud alumni of the Department of Biomedical Sciences (2018 – 2022), SRIHER (DU). This life science-based course gives a plethora of opportunities to explore and find our area of interest in the mighty ocean of science. The comprehensive course module with theory and practical components across various semesters enable us to lay a strong foundation in understanding the fundamentals of science and other inter related avenues. Accessibility to specialised laboratories, getting hands-on research experience under the able guidance of eminent supervisors, workshops and interactive sessions with the subject matter experts, fellowship funded projects for short term research and many more contributed to my wholesome learning from this amazing place. 4 years with the BMS family had also taught me many life lessons than textbook content. The faculty members were immensely supportive and empathetic towards students which helped us create a good rapport for communication and approachability. Their pure intention of educating us with core values and principles for leading a successful life was reflected in their interactions and concern for the students’ welfare. I am proud to share that my journey with the Sri Ramachandra Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Technology has been genuinely exhilarating and immensely enriching. This is largely attributed to the meticulously crafted, interdisciplinary curriculum of the B.Sc. (Hons). Biomedical Sciences degree. Every coursework we completed placed a strong emphasis on practical components, significantly enhancing our comprehension of classroom concepts. This focus on practical applications proved invaluable when I undertook primary research for two funded fellowships: The Indian Academy of Science (IAS) Summer Research Fellowship and the Chancellor’s Summer Research Fellowship. Currently, I am engaged in research at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and I can testify that the solid foundation. I acquired from my undergraduate has been absolutely instrumental in fulfilling my research responsibilities here. I must acknowledge the incredible faculty, who have consistently supported me in all my endeavours and achievements, playing a pivotal role in shaping my future. Without their unwavering support, none of these experiences would have been possible. I can confidently affirm that the Biomedical Sciences degree is truly one-of-a-kind.
The curriculum was multidisciplinary and provided a holistic approach to biology. It covered an array of subjects ranging from developmental biology, immunology, cancer biology and bioinformatics. In order to provide us with a substantial amount of practical training, the department made sure to understand both the theoretical and practical components of the courses. Through journal clubs, it provided us with a forum for delivering scientific presentations on our area of interest in research. The faculty members aided us in pursuing our interests and career paths and showed a great deal of passion and support
As an alumna of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, I am incredibly grateful for the education and hands-on training I received during my four years there. The department’s broad curriculum provided me with a strong scientific foundation across a variety of biomedical topics, going far beyond just textbook learning. Presenting seminars, engaging journal clubs, and my final year research project were instrumental in shaping me into a curious scientist, passionate about research. The practical lab training honed my technical skills and knowledge, preparing me well for a rigorous PhD program in the US, which I began directly after graduating from BMS. Thanks to the excellent training and nurturing environment the Department of Biomedical Sciences provided, I now enjoy every day of research and discovery in my doctoral program. Hi, this is Swetha Rajendran, BMS Alumni (2013-2017), currently pursuing doctorate degree at Dept. of Human Genetics, SRIHER. My work is mainly focused on post translational modification and radiation response in Head and Neck Cancers. My undergrad program, Biomedical Sciences, is the main reason for me to pursue research. It has a wonderful curriculum that covers all the basic science required for research. Also, it includes a very wide range of subjects such as anatomy, organic chemistry, psychology, etc. which increased our future scope of specialisation. It totally had 48 subjects with its own major practical sessions. Practical sessions exposed us to the application perspective of the subjects. Apart from this, we were encouraged to enrol into additional credit-based courses such as herbal drug technology, In vitro assays for preclinical screening for natural products, etc. that improved our knowledge further. The best thing about Biomedical Sciences is involving students in giving presentations regularly for internal assessments and in journal club sessions. These activities improved my presentation and public speaking skills. Journal clubs helped us to understand the current research updates in our field. The best experience out of all is offering summer research fellowships worth INR 10,000 for undergrad students. It was a huge opportunity and I learnt mammalian cell culture and assays which is the most precious privilege I got as an undergrad. This encouraged me to publish my very first original article that came out of my summer research fellowship project. I’m forever grateful for BMS and I take this opportunity to thank all my Professors for imparting quality knowledge and confidence
I have had a wonderful four years at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at SRIHER. At the department, I’ve found a place where support and assistance are provided to those who seek it. I feel like I’ve thoroughly utilised the resources provided by the department, and in a few instances, I’m really grateful for the department and my mentors for providing me with additional research opportunities and project extensions. This has greatly helped me acquire an overall understanding of a laboratory environment and has set me up for a life in academic research. I personally feel this program is unique in that it equips students to engage in research more than other similar programs offered elsewhere. This program has particularly provided me with strong foundation and has helped me continue doing research (integrated Ph.D.) in Iowa State University of Science and Technology, USA. Overall, my experience at the Department of Biomedical Sciences at SRIHER was truly wholesome and has left me content with all the cherished memories
B.Sc. (Hons). Biomedical Sciences course at Ramachandra is unique in the opportunities and experiences it provides. The course helps in building a well-rounded researcher with not just theoretical knowledge but a wide range of technical skills in topics ranging from immunology and microbiology to clinical genetics. Each theoretical course is accompanied by a practical counterpart that helps in building critical skill sets necessary to pursue biological research as a profession. I had the opportunity to participate in multiple seminars and talks, prepare poster presentations, be a part of researlch internships and even publish a research paper during my time as a student at the Department of Biomedical Sciences. The exposure I gained at Sri Ramachandra proved invaluable in helping me get into a Master’s program in Molecular and Cellular Biology at the University of Munich which has now led to me working with the institute of cardiovascular disease prevention, University of Munich. I still call upon countless skills I learnt during my time at Sri Ramachandra every day I work as an academic researcher and will always be thankful to the BSc. (Hons). BMS course for providing me with a phenomenal base to build my research career
