The National Seminar on Brain Gut Microbiota – The BGM of Life ’ highlighted the impact of nutrition on mental health, organized by the Department of Biomedical Sciences, Sri Ramachandra Institute of Higher Education and Research on 18th November 2023. Advancing medical research has revealed the existence of an interplay between the brain, the gut microbiome and dysbiosis. The BGM would gave an in depth understanding of the dysbiosis linked to diseases of the body and mind, and natural ways to restore the health of the brain and gut by the intake of highly nutritive superfoods. The BGM was an eye opener to encourage the consumption of gut friendly foods and develop healthy eating habits, which are crucial for ones’ cognitive, behavioral and emotional well-being. The BGM opened new avenues for the students belonging to the bioscience background to expand their research knowledge further in the field of nutrition to develop novel therapeutic strategies to treat various mental illnesses. BGM was a unique learning platform that would provide extensive knowledge on the significance of incorporating a rational diet in our everyday lives, with emphasis on the profound effects it could have on our mental health and general wellbeing.
