The Department of Biomedical Sciences organised a two-day National Conference on ‘Phytochemicals as Biotherapeutics – Unravelling the Mystery of Natural Products (HERBESCON 2016) from February 17th to 18th ,2016. The Chief Guests, Prof.Bhusan Patwardhan and Dr.R.Ilavarasan addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of traditional medicine in curing various ailments in a holistic approach. The event also brought together the participants from various National Universities to present their papers and posters, out of which the best three were awarded with certificates and cash prizes. The National Conference further addressed the various issues of patenting novel plant-based biotherapeutic agents and also gave an insight into the recent bioinformatics tools used in the process of drug designing. Dr A Sumathy, Organizing Secretary proposed the vote of thanks mentioning the funding agencies such as DBT, DST and ICMR and other sponsors.
